Michael S. Todd, D.O.
ORTHOPEDIC SPORTS MEDICINE SURGEON
SHOULDER, HIP, AND KNEE SPECIALIST
OUR STAFF
Originally from Canton, Ohio, and a graduate of Kent State University, Todd has joined Dr. Anne Marie Chicorelli (also a Kent State graduate) at Wooster Community Hospital’s HealthPoint orthopaedic practice.
Wooster Community Hospital has again partnered with The Ohio State University (OSU) to bring Dr. Todd to Wooster. “It’s really the best of both worlds,” explains Todd, “I get to work in a community hospital and still have all the benefits of being part of the Ohio State Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine practice. Along with Dr. Chicorelli, Todd is a Sports Medicine Fellow with Ohio State. His specialties lie in three main areas: knees, shoulders, and hips, and he also has a special interest in joint preservation. “Ninety percent of my practice is arthroscopic procedures.”
Dr. Todd comes to Wooster with a solid background in teaching, as well as extensive active military duty in the U.S. Army. He was deployed twice to military hospitals, doing tours in both Iraq and Afghanistan. “We’d do 400 - 500 complex operations on a six-to-seven month tour.”
One of his goals for our community is to become a provider for those with military insurance to allow them to receive care locally. What about the change from a military to a civilian practice? “In the military it’s about getting soldiers back on the front lines.” In private practice, Dr. Todd will be focusing on sports-related injuries, as well as a more general orthopaedic practice.
Both Dr. Todd and Chicorelli come to their practice with a college sports background. Baseball was Dr. Todd’s sport. He originally attended the University of Cincinnati, but transferred to Kent State University to be closer to family. “I wasn’t the greatest player, but it helped provide me with an education.” Playing close to home was important to the family-oriented surgeon. “My family could come to all my games. That was important.” Dr. Todd’s original interest was in total joint procedures. Once he began working with a sports medicine fellow and noted that many procedures could be performed arthroscopically, “my sports background took over from there. I could understand and identify with what the patients were going through. It’s a population eager to return to their lives.” Woosterhospital.org
